Our verdict
Goodmorning is the hostel to pick if you're travelling alone and want company from the first morning. It doesn't take families or groups larger than 3, so almost everyone is on their own. Staff serve pancakes at the free breakfast, run a group activity every day, cook a communal dinner at 8pm and take guests out every night, often to Bairro Alto across the street. The hostel says it isn't a party hostel but has a party vibe. It held a 9.9/10 Hostelworld score when we checked, but it isn't cheap: dorms started at €30 a night, and about half the guests add the all-inclusive Not-So-Solo package. Guests must be 18 or over.

In its own words, it isn't a party hostel but it has a party vibe. There's an open bar from 5 to 10pm for package guests, and every night staff take guests out, so the hostel goes quiet once the group has left.
