One country, covered hostel by hostel
Portugal Best Hostels is an independent website about hostels in Portugal. We cover Lisbon, Porto, Lagos, the Algarve and Madeira, with a page for each hostel and city guides that compare them side by side.
We are not a booking site and we don't take bookings. When you're ready to book, we link you to the hostel's Hostelworld page or its own website.

Our method
How we pick hostels
We only publish what we can check, and we show when we checked it.
What we don't claim
- We have not stayed at every hostel we list, and we don't say we have.
- Ratings are the source's score (usually Hostelworld), not our own.
- We don't publish guest reviews we can't trace to a source.

We start with the hostel's own website
Address, neighbourhood, room types and facilities come from the hostel itself, so we know it is open and what it offers.

We check its current Hostelworld listing
We record the Hostelworld rating and the lowest dorm price on the day we look, and we show that date next to both. Prices change daily, so treat ours as a guide and check the live price before you book.

We write a verdict from those facts
Each hostel gets a short take: who it suits, who it doesn't, and how it compares with nearby alternatives.

We keep the sources
Every hostel entry stores the pages it was built from, so a fact can be traced and re-checked.

Spotted a mistake?
Hostels change prices, rooms and owners. If something on a page is wrong or out of date, tell us and we'll check it and fix it. Hostel owners can do the same; corrections are free.
