A padlock that fits a hostel locker Dorm lockers often need your own padlock, or charge to rent one. Check the shackle is thin enough for the locker hasp. Which lock to buy
Quick-dry travel towel Towels aren't always part of the bed price. Check your hostel's listing before you leave one at home.
Earplugs and an eye mask Late check-ins, early alarms and reading lights are part of dorm life.
Flip-flops For shared showers.
Long charging cable The socket isn't always next to your bunk. A 2 m cable reaches from most places.
Hanging wash bag Shared bathrooms can be short on shelf space; a hook-on bag keeps your things off the floor.
Laundry bag Keeps worn clothes out of the shared room until you find a washing machine.

Passport or EU/EEA ID card Hostels ask for ID at check-in. Keep a photo of it somewhere other than your phone.
Two bank cards, kept apart If one card is lost or blocked, the other is in a different bag.
A little cash in euros For the odd café, market stall or locker deposit that doesn't take cards.

If your hostel has a shared kitchen, put your name and checkout date on anything you leave in the fridge.
