Do I need to book hostels in advance or can I show up and find something?
Travelling Portugal in March, not sure of my exact dates yet. Wondering if I can keep it flexible or if hostels fill up that fast.

March is shoulder season so you generally have more flexibility than summer but don't push it in Lisbon and Porto — the popular hostels book out fast even in spring because of weekend city breaks. Lagos in March is totally walkable without booking. My rule: always book at least 2-3 days ahead in Lisbon/Porto, totally fine to wing it everywhere else. Hostelworld app makes same-day booking easy.
