How much does a hostel dorm bed cost in Lisbon per night?

budget lisbon hostel-cost accommodation

Planning a 10-day trip to Portugal and trying to work out my accommodation budget. I've seen really varying prices online. What's a realistic amount to budget for hostel dorms in Lisbon, and is there much quality difference between the cheap and mid-range options?

In 2026, budget roughly €20–30 per night for a decent Lisbon hostel dorm. The cheapest end (€15–20) tends to be 8–10 bed dorms, basic but clean. The €25–35 range gets you smaller dorms, often with good social areas, lockers, and sometimes free breakfast.

Prices vary a lot by season. Expect €28–38/night in July–August and as low as €15–22 in winter. Booking directly with the hostel sometimes gets you a small discount over booking platforms, and some hostels offer a free drink on arrival for direct bookings.

Private rooms in Lisbon hostels typically run €55–90/night for a double. This is often comparable to budget hotels, but you get access to the hostel social scene, kitchen, and events. Great option for couples who want community without sharing a dorm.

Don't assume the most expensive hostels are the best. Some of the highest-rated Lisbon hostels on Hostelworld charge €22–26/night for a dorm and consistently outperform pricier options in reviews. Always look at the score and recent comments, not just the price.

Porto hostels are noticeably cheaper than Lisbon — plan for €16–25/night for a dorm. For similar money in Lisbon you'd be somewhere much more basic. If budget is tight, spending more nights in Porto and fewer in Lisbon saves money without sacrificing experience.

Check whether breakfast is included when comparing prices. A hostel charging €25/night with free breakfast is actually cheaper than one at €20 without it, since a café breakfast in Lisbon costs €5–8. Some hostels also do free communal dinners once a week.
