Best neighbourhood to stay in Porto for a first timer?
Looking at hostels in Ribeira, Bonfim and around the station area. Not sure which makes more sense for walking to the main spots without getting killed on hills.

Bonfim is the sweet spot right now — close enough to walk to Ribeira in 15 mins, way more local than the tourist centre, and has the best cafes and wine bars. Ribeira itself is stunning but overpriced and full of day-trippers. Around São Bento station is also great if you want to be central. Avoid anything too far uphill unless you enjoy leg day — Porto's hills are no joke with a full backpack.
Agreed on Bonfim. Also check out hostels near Flores street (Rua das Flores) — walking distance to everything and you're in one of the nicest parts of the city.
